Was inspired by a design (wasn't able to find the artist), so I began making similar geometry in Maya and Z-brush, then textured (some photo-bashing) in Photoshop, used spec and opacity maps to achieve the look and finally experimented with different lighting effects with Arnold, volumetric lighting, AiFog and a normal lighting/render. The background is a series of png renders of the trees and a stylized mountain which I quickly painted up (this includes the rock path/forest floor as well).
